The BA-Md program at Brooklyn college is an eight year program that includes four undergraduate years at Brooklyn college and four more years at SUNY Downstate medical school.
This program is amazing for saving future doctors a ton of money, since CUNY Brooklyn is a city college with a city tuition and SUNY Downstate is a state medical school with reduced tuition as well. The program also has a guaranteed admission to a great medical school, if all the requirements are fulfilled!
What are the requirements for the program?
In order to remain in the program, BA-MD students must maintain a cumulative overall GPA of 3.5, based on all courses, and a cumulative 3.5 science GPA.
BA-MD students are required to complete at least 320 hours of clinical experience during the summer following the freshman or sophomore or junior year.
The student is required to complete 60 hours of non-medical community service each semester following the completion of the freshman year.
A student in the BA-MD program must take the MCAT exam for the first time NO LATER than the summer following the junior year. The graduating class of 2020 will be expected to meet the following minimum section score requirements: Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems,127; Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills,126; Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, 128; Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior,127. The class will also have to meet the following minimum total score requirement: 509. The minimum score requirements for classes graduating after 2020 will depend on national data from future MCAT exam administrations.
If these minimum required scores are not achieved in a single exam (satisfactory scores on individual sections of one exam cannot be “saved” or carried over to another exam), the student will have to take the exam again. If the minimum scores on the second exam are again not achieved, the student will have to take the exam for the third and last time.
