A sample of SO (g) and a sample of NO (g) contain the same number of molecules when they have the same

NY Regents Chemistry Exam August 2023 Question 19

19. A sample of SO(g) and a sample of NO(g) contain the same number of molecules when they have the same

(1) mass, temperature, and volume

(2) mass, temperature, and pressure

(3) pressure, volume, and temperature

(4) pressure, volume, and mass

Solution: According to the ideal gas law: PV=nRT where P is pressure, V is volume, n is the number of moles, R is the ideal gas constant and T is the temperature. For two gases to have the same number of molecules, they must have the same number of moles. If there is the same pressure. temperature and volume, the number of moles will be equal as well.

Choice 3.
