Regents Chemistry Exam June 2024 Question 22

22 At STP, a 2.0-liter sample of nitrogen gas and a 2.0-liter sample of oxygen gas have equal

(1) atomic masses (3) densities

(2) numbers of molecules (4) boiling points

Solution:

STP stands for standard temperature and pressure. Since both gases are at STP, they both have the same temperature, presure. They also have the same volume of 2 liters. According to the ideal gas law, PV=nRT, if two gases have the same temperature, pressure and volume, they will have the same number of moles, which means they will have the same number of molecules. Choice 2 is the correct answer choice.
