Regents Chemistry Exam August 2024 Question 34

34 At STP, which property can be used to differentiate a 2.0-gram sample of NaCl(s) from a 2.0-gram sample of AgCl(s)?

(1) mass (3) phase

(2) solubility (4) temperature

Solution:

Table F on the Reference Table lists solubilities for different aqueous solutions. AgCl is insoluble while NaCl is soluble. Choice 2 is the correct answer.

Other choices can be easily eliminated. Both samples have the same mass (2.0grams), same phase (solid), and same temperature (STP stands for standard temperature and pressure).
